Appropriate to wear in public?

I got a pair of Ugg slippers for Christmas. They look like suede loafers, and are lined with sheep skin. My question is not whether I can wear them to go out, but are they fashionably acceptable. They really do look like slippers, and I think it is a little strange to wear them out, but please tell me if I am wrong.
