Can a large explosion in the atmosphere blow of part of the atmosphere?

I do not want to do this on Earth. Venus seems like a great world, other than atmospheric pressure that would crush us, and a run away greenhouse effect that would burn us. If we blow of part of the atmosphere, possibly by a series of explosions, could we thin it out and allow it to cool to acceptable levels? After that, plants wold love the CO2 and water, and may produce oxygen. If that gets to an acceptable level, it's the new Earth!
