Compensation for improper medical treatment?

Hi. My mom is a patient who has hyperthyroidism. She received an improper medical treatment from Kaiser Permenente. Because of the improper treatment, she wasted a year on taking the wrong medicine, which led to side effects such as extreme tiredness, increased heartbeat and body temperature, and rash. She had to reduce work days ( which reduced her income) due to the reason that she was too tired. The amount that she had paid for the treatment was $300. However, she has to redo the entire treatment now after finding out that she has been getting the wrong medication. I am writing a complaint letter for her and I want to ask for compensation. How much should I ask for as a reasonable amount? Thanks!
